How Squaredly handles your data

This policy explains what information Squaredly processes, how ads and premium purchases work, and the choices available to you.

Last updated: 6 April 2026

1. Introduction

Squaredly is a mobile word puzzle game for Android. This privacy policy describes how information is processed when you use the app, including daily puzzle loading, premium purchase restoration, and in-app advertising.

By using Squaredly, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the app.

Data controller: Squaredly is operated by Squaredly. If you have questions about this policy or your personal data, contact vieleapps@googlemail.com.

2. Information we collect

Squaredly processes a limited set of information needed to run the game and support ads and premium features.

  • Device and app information. This includes app version, operating system, basic device information, and identifiers used by Google AdMob for advertising and measurement.
  • Gameplay data stored on your device. Squaredly stores local progress, found words, hints, settings, and statistics on the device.
  • Install identity data. The app registers a server-issued install identity and uses a signed install token to access certain backend features such as premium entitlement reads and archive access.
  • Backend request data. The Squaredly backend receives the requests needed to deliver puzzle data, archive content, premium verification, and premium restoration.

Squaredly does not ask you to create an account, and it does not currently sync gameplay progress across devices.

3. How information is used

  • To deliver daily puzzles, archive puzzles, and yesterday's solution.
  • To store local game progress and preferences on your device.
  • To verify and restore the optional Squaredly Premium purchase.
  • To serve and measure ads for free users.
  • To protect the API from abuse and secure app traffic.

4. Legal bases for processing

Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, Squaredly relies on the following legal bases depending on the type of processing involved:

  • Consent. For personalised advertising and related consent choices managed through Google UMP and AdMob where consent is required.
  • Legitimate interests. For core app operation, service security, fraud and abuse prevention, backend request handling, troubleshooting, and keeping the game available and reliable.
  • Performance of a contract. For providing and restoring premium features after a user purchases Squaredly Premium through Google Play.

5. Advertising, consent, and AdMob

Free users may see ads served by Google AdMob. Premium users do not see ads while premium is active.

For users in the EEA, UK, and other applicable regions, Squaredly uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent before personalised ads are served. The consent flow may include options such as Consent, Do not consent, and Manage options, along with Google-managed partner and vendor information.

AdMob and its partners may process device identifiers, cookies or similar technologies, approximate location, and ad interaction information for ad delivery, measurement, frequency capping, fraud prevention, and related purposes.

Where available in your region, you can reopen or change these choices inside the app through the Ad Policy entry in the Profile section.

More information about Google's data practices is available at Google Privacy Policy.

6. Premium purchases

Squaredly Premium is a one-time purchase processed through Google Play. Squaredly does not store your payment card details.

The backend may receive purchase verification and restore information from Google Play in order to confirm whether premium should be active. Premium currently unlocks archive access, premium themes, extra starting hints, and ad removal.

7. Data sharing and service providers

Squaredly may share limited information with service providers that support app functionality.

  • Google AdMob and Google UMP for advertising and consent messaging.
  • Google Play for in-app billing verification and purchase restoration.
  • Cloudflare for API edge protection and traffic management.
  • Microsoft Azure for backend hosting and API delivery.

Squaredly does not sell your personal information.

8. Data retention

Local gameplay data remains on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the app.

Backend-side records, request logs, premium verification records, and abuse-prevention records are kept only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, secure the API, investigate misuse, support premium features, and comply with legal obligations. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of data and the purpose for which it was collected.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights over your personal data, including the right to request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, or data portability where applicable.

  • You can reset or limit personalised ads in Android settings.
  • You can withdraw or change ad consent through the app's Ad Policy entry where the UMP privacy options flow is available.
  • You can uninstall the app at any time to remove device-local game data.

To exercise privacy rights or ask a question about personal data, contact vieleapps@googlemail.com.

If you are in the UK, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk.

10. International transfers

Some service providers used by Squaredly may process data outside your country, including outside the UK or EEA. Where required, those transfers are carried out using the safeguards made available by the relevant provider, such as contractual protections.

11. Children's privacy

Squaredly is not intended for children under 13, or under a higher minimum age where local law requires it. If you believe a child has provided information in a way that raises a concern, please contact us.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated over time. When it changes, the date at the top of this page will be revised.
